6 Skincare Items To Always Have In Your Bag

What’s in Your Bag?

Skincare doesn’t stop after your daily morning and night routine. Most times your skin needs regular touch-ups and maintenance through the day. Just like you’d carry your basic make-up essentials (compact powder and lipstick for instance), there are certain things that you should always have at hand through the day and here they are…

SUNSCREEN

To begin with, sunscreen isn’t something you apply once and you’re done for the day. Most brands recommend applying it at intervals (every 2hrs) throughout the day to get maximum protection. The only way to ensure this is by having one with you while you’re on the go. This is a must skincare item to have in your bag! If you have a tiny purse/bag, opt for a travel size sunscreen. You can find a variety of such on Jumia. I personally love Neutrogena’s Hydro boost or CoolDry Sports (No white residue, no fear).

LIP BALM

Your lips along with your eyes have the most sensitive skin, this is why it’s important to keep it moisturized and protected. They can easily dry out and get chapped once exposed to harsh weather, and the only way to prevent this is by having a lip balm at hand anywhere you go. Lip balms are very essential and work best in keeping our lips soft and hydrated. This has been my skincare bag essential since I was a little kid. If you’re looking for more shine, lip gloss works well to protect your lips too. Although it might not be as moisturizing as a lip balm.

HAND SANITIZER

With the pandemic we’re facing right now and the need to always keep ourselves and surrounding germ free, the importance of sanitizers has reached a whole new level. Through the day our hands come in contact with a lot of bacteria and I’m sure if we could actually see them, some of us would die from anxiety and mysophobia (some things are best not seen). The only way we can fight these germs when we’re out (since we might not be able to wash regularly) and about is by regularly reapplying a hand sanitizer. We wouldn’t want those germs transferring to our faces, hence skincare bag essential!

FACE MIST

Face mists/sprays are very good for keeping your skin hydrated and giving you a dewy glow. Through the day, especially in the dry season, your skin can get dry and dull. All it takes to freshen it up and rehydrate is a quick spritz a few times a day. This is why the facial mist made it on our list of skincare items essential list. If you’re not ready to splurge on a hydrating face mist just yet, you can always quickly make one yourself. But you’d have to keep it to small batches as you won’t be using any preservatives in it.

HAND CREAM

We all know how dry our hands can get when we’re out, especially in the harmattan season or if you’re staying in an air-conditioned room throughout. To prevent that uncomfortable dryness, you should carry around a portable hand cream wherever you go. You can get one practically anywhere, and most of your favorite brands most likely have a mini moisturizer that can substitute as one.

Vaseline

Ahhn! now this one is like the king of everything on this list, besides the face mist and SPF of course. Okay, maybe not the ‘king’ then but it’s definitely an all-rounder. Vaseline can serve as a lip balm, hand and body moisturizer, and a simple salve in case of any skin irritation/bruise while you’re out. It’s just a handy product to always have in your bag, and lucky for us it comes in the smallest, most portable container now.

Conclusion

These are all very easy items to get and you most likely already have them at home! Just remember to do your skin a whole lot of good by taking them with you when you leave the house.
